Compromised

The finished print has lost it’s way in an ocean of screens and monitors. It wasn’t so long ago that photography was a printed medium. Maybe I’m old school or I’m romanticizing the art of the photographic print. Nonetheless I feel posting photographs online , especially posting on social media sites, degrades photography ( or any visual art ) . Like everything else so much of our lives have been diverted to screens and pixels, the virtual impersonal . The texture is gone and the art of printmaking has lost it’s integrity. Showing physical prints in person is a thing of the past.

These days if you don’t have an online presence you’ll be left out of the market for art selling and gig assignments. Even posting photos on my websites makes me feel like I’m compromising the art of photography and printmaking.
